They themselves are limited, with its emphasis on the 12 megapixels. Why? It's silly. In a compact camera, do not solve a typical goal for more than 4 million points of light, so that more than 4 million pixels, the whole scene is wasted collecting. I can absolutely guarantee that this would be able to tell the difference (visual) between, say, compactly 6MP and 12MP camera image. The only real world, the differences are: higher prices, larger files, lots of space and processing time, which boast of at the time of writing of the camera - stop it, and some strange rituals in front of the camera sound as "good" because it is more pixels than the little Polly's awful.

Anyway, enough of the hard line.

Fuji FinePix J250 - 5x, 10 MP, 3-inch - $ 144 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com) - a reliable and thoroughly with prices.

KODAK EASYSHARE M381 12MP, 5x, 12MP, 3 inches. $ 142nd Same place.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS25 (the best of the group here) 12.1MP, 5x 3in SNA 176 $. Same place.

Samsung SL720 - SPEC Like most - on the prices the same - the same place.

Sony DSC-W290 Cyber - shot with the same specifications, etc., etc. $ 195 However, relying on memory sticks, which already are a little expensive.

Edit: No Nikon / Canon cameras that meet your criteria, not listed here.

I think Canon PowerShot SD780 meets your needs. It has 12.1 megapixels and costs about cost $ 200. The zoom is a bit weak (3x optical), and the screen is smaller than desired (2.5 inches), but overall a great camera.
Here are the specifications: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro ...
